Step 3: Setting up your device

Edited

For configuring a telemetry or audio stream on a device, follow the step by step instructions below. This only applies for VPN customers. If you are a customer on direct to cloud, the control support will configure the devices for you. Contact support via support@cntrl.io or via WhatsApp at +44 7723 366 365.

Step 1 Log in: To log in to your device click on the device in control studio, then Modem Info tab below, and on the settings cog there or alternatively type into your browser one of the modems IP addresses with adding :8080 to the end before pressing enter.

Username: admin

Password: control

After successful log in you are presented with the following Device Info screen and several tabs to add information and check different states.

Step 2 Set Transmit or Receive: Choose the Modem Mode you wish to use in the device Info screen. If you use the device in your vehicle, set it up to Transmit. If you use the device inside your pits or on your moving pit stand, choose Receive as Modem Mode and click Save.

Step 3 Set Data Destination: Navigate to Streams and Telemetry for adding and configuring your telemetry stream(s). Configuration includes choosing Logger Type, setting Data Destination like IP address(es) and Port Number and choosing the Transmit Mode.

  1. Set the brand of your logger type

  2. Set the interface you have wired in for telemetry (RS232 or Ethernet). Click Save.

  3. Set to use either Primary or Secondary IP address

  4. Set the IP address of the VPN on your machine

  5. optional: set a secondary VPN address of a spare machine

  6. Set target port from the vehicle the device is installed in. This information you will find in the portal -> vehicles. Click Save and press Restart Streams button above.

Then go to Audio to configure your Audio Stream if applicable.

Step 5: Configuring the Input/Output. Click on the tab of IO in the device user interface. Here you have to select the corresponding baud rate when using the RS232 interface and configure the Ethernet if applicable or change the CAN addressing.

Step 6: If the vehicle software configuration has been completed and is running and the device is online, a check on states can be confirmed on the System tab of the device user interface. Navigating to System and then Connection will give an overview of each Modem, if they are online and able to send data as well as their IP addresses, their signal strengths and which network they are connected to.

Clicking on Telemetry in the left hand side menu will open up the telemetry state page. It will display information if the Telemetry is arriving from the car by the time the user logged into the user interface and by activating the Realtime toggle button will update this information in real time.

Same applies to the Audio Stream if configured.

The Interfaces page shows information about the state of the CAN bus, and the states of bother RS232 and Ethernet interfaces. When Link State is showing a green light and the Info says Configured, the interface is able to transmit data.
